WrestleStat Rankings Week 13

Here’s this weeks rankings installment.

Wrestler Rankings: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/wrestler

Darian Cruz moved up 3 spots to finish at #3 at 125 after knocking of undefeated #2 Joey Dance, and then turned around and beat Conor Youtsey.
Zahid Valencia moves into the #2 spot at 174 after knocking off #12 Zac Brunson and moving his undefeated record to 28 – 0, while Epperly (formerly #2) takes a loss to Ryan Preisch to slide down into the #3 spot.
At 285, Jacob Kasper made a big jump up moving 10 spots to finish at #11. Kasper has ripped off 17 wins in a row, including his most recent upset win coming over #4 Ty Walz (which was by MD).

Dual Rankings: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/dual

Both North Carolina State and Central Michigan received a bump of 6 spots to finish at #11 and #13 respectively, while Iowa State moved down 6 spots to end up at #19 in the rankings.

Tournament Rankings: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/tournament

No real significant changins in the tournament rankings this week, except for Duke getting a nice boost moving up 19 spots, obviously with help from Jacob Kasper’s rise in the rankings.

Hodge Watch: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/hodge

No changes in this weeks Hodge Watch, but I will say it’s getting harder and harder to argue that Dean should not be the clear favorite right now. The Hodge algorithm will need to some work in the offseason because Dean has a better track record to justify the trophy over Retherford.

Statistical Rankings: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/statistical

Gabe Dean, the #1 184 pounder in the country, wrestling in the toughest weight class, is STILL leading Division I wrestlers with 17 falls to date.

Note: you’ll notice that wrestlers that have not wrestled any matches are still in the rankings this week. I got selfish over the last week and implemented the “Other Seasons” feature for schools and wrestlers instead of tweaking the rankings. Maybe at this point in the season, I should just leave it as-is; what do you think?

WrestleStat – Big Enhancement over the weekend

Other seasons profiles are now available for schools!

When you’re on a school’s profile page, (from a tablet or desktop machine) there will be menu options on the left to view the schools profile for a specific season. Right now, profiles are available from the 2013-2014 season, all the way up through the 2019-2020 season.

This enhancement allows for the ability to modify the starters, along with weights for 3 seasons into the future. This will let fans play around with weights and lineups to see how their teams will look in the future.

Currently, schools’ profiles are the only thing available in other seasons. Next I’ll be working on viewing rankings from other seasons, as well as doing wrestlers profiles for other seasons.

Note: there’s a little trick for changing weights. If you want to change a wrestlers weight, but you don’t want them to be a starter, just first set them as the starter at the new weight (via the “Update Starters” link on the left of the school profile page), then set the original/different starter after that, it will keep the new weight, but they won’t be a starter anymore.

Play around with it some. This will allow some people to just save their future lineups directly in the database, without having to keep track of their own excel files if they don’t want to.

If anyone requests it, I can go out more than just 3 seasons if it’s wanted, just let me know.

New changes this week; more changes next week

New This Week

This week I’ve implemented an “IsInjured” flag on every wrestlers profile page. Place a checkmark in this box if the wrestler has sustained a season-ending injury, or is injured and will be out for a significant amount of time.

After checking that flag, the school profile pages (the roster, eligibility breakdown, and depth chart tabs) as well as all of the individual rankings pages, will show a little ambulance icon next to the wrestlers name indicating they are in an injured status.

Coming next week

The rankings will undergo an update where wrestlers that have not wrestled any matches for the 2016-2017 season will be excluded from the individual rankings. In the case that they are still set as the starter (which affects the dual and tournament rankings), the next eligible starter will automatically be set to accommodate this.

WrestleStat Rankings – Week 12

Wrestler Rankings: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/wrestler
Our big mover in individual rankings this week comes from Brandon Paetzell who moved up 42 spots to finish at #31 at 125 pounds.

Dual Rankings: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/dual
Tournament Rankings: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/tournament

The major change in team rankings occurs after a big move by Penn State this weekend, their lead in the tournament rankings just got a little bigger. True freshman Mark Hall has had his redshirt removed at 174 pounds. The move gives Penn State an additional 12.95 points in the tournament ranking format which moves them well ahead of 2nd place Oklahoma State.

Statistical Rankings: http://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/statistical
Gabe Dean has increased his lead in the most falls on the season with 15. 2nd place is well back with 11, where two guys are tied, Colston DiBlasi and Logan Gruszka.
